Being given the opportunity to train as an accredited heritage tourist guide was just the start of an ongoing pride in our town by the Heritage Champions. It was just the push Blackpool needed to showcase what a rich tourist trade we have and importantly always have had. What a pleasure to show visitors how the Heritage Team, led by Carl Carrington is recreating the time and mood of the era in the vital restoration work. They are sympathetically pulling back the hidden pages of the rich heritage still here.
We have tourists who cannot believe what they are seeing as we move from room to room, each one uniquely taking us back to the late 1800’s. Not only on the list of treasures is the historic Winter Gardens and Stanley Park, but Little Marton Windmill, the Tower, the Grand and the wonderful Imperial Hotel where the tile work of the hidden Turkish Baths is now being carefully restored. The list is growing and the interest with it in promoting Blackpool’s heritage growing with it.
When the museum is up and running it will draw in local historic collections which for now remain hidden from our eyes. We as a team work hard in promoting the best of Blackpool that continues to inspire the schools to regularly book for our tours as part of the curriculum. Not forgetting the Winter Gardens Trust set up to plough vital funds back into the restoration project.
Me I am as proud as punch!
